Franklin tattoo parlor participating in 5th annual Ink to End Lyme Fundraiser

Do you have the urge to help out a great cause this weekend? Do you need a new tattoo? Either way, you should stop by Hellcat Tattoo in Franklin.  For the last five years, tattoo shops around the country have joined together as part of the Ink to End Lyme fundraiser.  During this event, tattoo shops donate their time and services, and the proceeds of the day go to help fund research for Lyme Disease.

Dave Porter owner of Hellcat Tattoos in Franklin, has participated in the Ink to End Lyme event for the last few years at his Florida location and is excited to be doing it again this Saturday, February 19 from 12 PM-7 PM.

“Lyme Warrior is a nationwide organization. We have been really lucky to provide some financial assistance and help raise money for research and other things,” said Porter.

During the event, customers can expect to choose a tattoo from a sheet of options, for a donation of only $60, with 100 percent of that going to the Ink to End fundraiser.  Larger Tattoos may be available by appointment.

Ink to End is organized by the Lyme Warrior Inc, a Non-Profit that is dedicated to the awareness, research, and patient care.  This cause is important to Porter as he has seen friends suffer from Lyme Disease and wants to help raise awareness.

“I have a lot of friends who have suffered from Lyme Disease and I have seen first hand how taxing it can be,” he said. “I have learned that while a lot of people may know something about it, they typically don’t know how bad it can be.”

According to the CDC, over 427,000 people are diagnosed with Lyme Disease every year. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks.
