Highlands Chamber of Commerce announces new Communications Manager

HIGHLANDS, N.C. –The Highlands Chamber of Commerce/Visit Highlands, NC announces Kara Addy as its new Communications Manager. An Atlanta native, Addy moved to the area in 2018, after more than two decades in South Carolina. She has spent her career leading and managing marketing, public relations, and communications teams in industries ranging from nonprofit to education to corporate.

Prior to joining the Highlands Chamber of Commerce/Visit Highlands, NC, Addy spent three years marketing locally-owned luxury real estate firms that serve the Highlands and surrounding areas. Addy holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Florida StateUniversity and a Certificate from the Non-Profit Leadership Institute at Francis Marion University. Additionally, she earned the universal Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). Her experience includes serving as adjunct faculty in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina.

Addy serves on the board of directors of Calliope Stage Company and has served on the Cultural Enrichment Task Force of Vision Cashiers and volunteered her time for the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau. She is thrilled to be a part of the Highlands Chamber of Commerce/Visit Highlands, NC team.

“As someone whose family’s roots go back generations in the Appalachian Mountains, and a former regular visitor to our area, it gives me great satisfaction and joy to share this special part of the world with others, and to support the local businesses and people who make it special,” Addy says. “I look forward to contributing as part of a stellar team here in Highlands.” After exploring and vacationing in the area for more than a decade, Addy and her family permanently located from Columbia, S.C.

Formed in 1931 to serve as the voice of business in and around Highlands, the Chamber of Commerce today has grown to provide services and support to businesses, residents and visitors. Conveniently located on Main Street in the Marchant-Parker-Davis-Patterson House, it welcomes and connects all who live, work and visit the community. The Highlands Chamber of Commerce/Visit Highlands, NC hosts an array of special events and programs, including Leadership Highlands, Business After Hours, the Outdoor Concert Series, Meander in May, and all the community holiday festivities.
