Ingles Markets finalized the purchase of Macon Plaza, the shopping center that currently houses Food Lion, on October 18. According to county records, the plaza, which also houses Shoe Sensation and the Franklin ABC Store, was sold to Ingles Markets for $6,300,000. South East Property Group LLC owned the building prior to selling it to Ingles Markets.
Representatives with Food Lion reported that the property acquisition is not expected to impact their operations in Macon County. The grocery chain has spent the last few months undergoing an interior remodel to better serve customers.
Town of Franklin Manager Amie Owens said the Franklin ABC Store, which is operated by the town, also doesn’t expect any changes at this point and the current lease of the building is good through November 2023.
Ingles Markets did not respond to inquiries regarding the purchase by press time.
Ingles Markets’ purchase of Macon Plaza is not the only substantial property acquisition the company finalized last month. As of October, Ingles Markets is now the owner of the largest retail shopping center in Haywood County — Waynesville Commons — where Wal-Mart is located.
The complex located in west Waynesville includes Wal-Mart, Belk, Best Buy, PetSmart and Michael’s, and other smaller retail shops.
Property records show Ingles purchased Waynesville Commons for $15.2 million last month. According to representatives associated with the Waynesville property acquisition, there are no immediate plans to make changes to the retail spaces.
