BRYSON CITY, NC – Staff caring for patients at Swain Community Hospital have won the Blue-Ribbon Award presented to departments receiving the highest scores on patient satisfaction surveys. The patient surveys are part of the National Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) measurement administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The care team at Swain Community Hospital accomplished an overall score of 85% in patient satisfaction.
“I am so proud of my staff for their dedication to the patient experience. We are privileged to work with our community’s families, and everyone puts the patient and family first in the care we provide. It is gratifying to see that approach validated in the patient surveys,” said the Director of Swain Med-Surg/Swing Unit, Sheila Lewis, BNS, RN, CPPS.
Mark Engel, MD a family physician at Swain Community Hospital shared a similar sentiment stating, “At Swain Community Hospital our nurses, therapists, and technicians care for our acute care and rehabilitation patients with a tremendous level of skill, knowledge, kindness, compassion, encouragement, and enthusiasm. Our staff is committed to providing the highest quality service to our patients and families, and it is not the least bit surprising to see them recognized and awarded for their efforts. It is an honor and a pleasure to work with these fine people—they are the heart of all we do for patients at Swain.”
“Every day, with every patient, we focus on providing a safe and high-quality experience,” said Steve Heatherly, CEO of Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital. “The entire staff at Swain Community Hospital, from behind the scenes to the patient-engaging care teams, excel at engaging patients and families and caring for the patient as if they are the person, they love the most.”
