Benefit concert for local veterans scheduled for this Saturday at Cowee School

Each year, the Smoky Mountain Veteran’s Stand down is hosted in Macon County to Stand Downs during which local Veterans Affairs staff and volunteers provide food, clothing and health screenings to local Veterans. In addition, Veterans in need also receive referrals for health care, housing solutions, employment, substance use treatment, mental health counseling and other essential services. The event is always free and a combined effort by many volunteer organizations, churches, and civic groups across Western North Carolina.

To help raise money for the annual event, Cowee School will host a benefit concert this Saturday, July 23rd on the outside stage. The benefit concert will feature local bands such as Angie Derrick Toomey and Steve Whiddon, Kornbread Creek, The Waters Family, and Rock Holler Band. The bands will rotate sets on the main stage providing a full day of entertainment.

In addition to music, there will be raffles, food, and vendors on site. The Chili Chompers food truck will be selling food. Entry to the concert will be a $10 per person donation with net proceeds benefiting The Smoky Mountain Veteran Stand Down.

There will be plenty of tents and shade set up around the venue, so bring a lawn chair and enjoy the day to support local veterans. Cowee School is located at 51 Cowee School Drive in Franklin, NC, just passed Cowee Baptist Church.
