Free community shred event takes place Aug. 26

HIGHLANDS, N.C. – The Highlands Chamber of Commerce/Visit Highlands, NC will host a community shred event next Friday, Aug. 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Highlands Plaza, near Bryson’s Food Store on Hwy. 106.

The public is invited to dispose of sensitive documents in an environmentally friendly way. Participants are encouraged to transport items in plastic bags or bins and keep in mind the following guidelines:

Items Allowed – Paper products with staples or paper clips, spiral notebooks

Items Not Allowed – Three-ring binders, cardboard

While there is no cost to shred, donations will be collected onsite to support the area’s first bilingual mental health counselor. The counselor will be part of the Plateau Behavioral Health Collaborative, a partnership of The Counseling Center, the Community Care Clinic of Highlands-Cashiers and the International Friendship Center.
