Macon Soil & Water Conservation District Cost Share Funds for the 2022-2023 program year now available

Macon County – 10/6/2022 – The Macon Soil & Water Conservation District (MSWCD) has received their allocation for the North Carolina Agriculture Cost Share Program (ACSP) for the 2022-2023 program year. MSWCD received $40,834 in ACSP funding, and an additional $7,056 in cost share program funding for identified impaired/impacted streams. The District was also allocated $11,000 through the Agricultural Water Resources Assistance Program (AgWRAP).

ACSP Best Management Practices (BMPs) include, but are not limited to, pasture renovation, streambank stabilization, livestock watering tanks/troughs, heavy use area protection, fencing, cropland conversion, field borders, stream crossings, critical area planting, and waste management systems. These practices are intended to reduce sediment and nutrient loads from entering the streams and waterways of the state. Landowners/operators who qualify for the program may receive a cost share reimbursement of 75% of a predetermined average cost for each BMP installed. These practices may also be installed on leased farmland.

AgWRAP BMPs include, but are not limited to, agricultural water supply wells, micro-irrigation systems, and agricultural pond repairs. These practices are intended to increase water use efficiency, availability and storage, and to conserve and protect water resources.

All MSWCD program applications are evaluated and ranked in order of priority. The Macon SWCD also offers technical assistance including information on preventing erosion on agricultural and residential land, streambank stabilization and restoration, administers the Community Conservation Assistance Program (CCAP), and also facilitates the Beaver Management Assistance Program (BMAP).
