Program to provide free prom attire to students in WNC

Students across WNC getting ready for this year’s prom season are invited to show through a closet of free dresses and formal wear courtesy of Pamela’s Closet.  Prom is such an important event for high school students, even more so now that many students haven’t had a traditional prom experience in several years. Pamela’s Closet is the Poplar Springs Baptist Church (Shelby, NC) chapter of Becca’s Closet and will be hosting prom dress distributions this March for students at Smoky Mountain High School. While the distribution will be at SMHS, it is open to any student in WNC.

The distraction events will feature hundreds of free dresses and formal wear sizes 0-28 available with two dates for students to shop.

Event dates for the Smoky Mountain High School Distribution are:

Saturday March 26 (9 AM – 3 PM) at Smoky Mountain High School (Sylva, NC)

Sunday March 27 (2 PM – 5 PM) at Smoky Mountain High School (Sylva, NC)

Becca’s Closet, based out of Florida, seeks to provide free prom dresses to high schoolers (https://www.beccascloset.org/). This is the chapter’s seventh-year running distributions. No proof of need is requested or asked for at any point in time.  At the event, dresses are arranged according to size on dress racks for easy access and browsing.  With dressing rooms and floor-length mirrors provided, students will get to try on as many gowns as they’d like. Hundreds of dresses (including some jumpsuits) will be on display in a range of sizes (0-28), styles, colors, and shapes.  All students may take one dress.

The program’s goal is to provide an inviting space and a positive experience for students.  Everyone deserves the perfect dress and Becca’s Closet hopes to help.
