Smoky Mountain Competition Cheer Club recently finished out their sixth season competing in Jekyll Island, Georgia at The Finale, a national championship hosted by Diamond Cheer & Dance, on April 24, 2022. The program received the following awards: Sparkling Gems first place, Dazzling Diamonds fourth place, Junior Onyx fifth place, and the Senior Sapphires first place. Three teams received zero deductions for their routines. In addition, the program won the Sportsmanship Award for the competition. This award makes the fifth sportsmanship award won by the program for this season.
Several cheerleaders competed in the solo/duo/trio and stunt group competition. Maelyn Jowers received first place for her “Emergency” themed solo routine. Khianah Gibson received first place for her solo routine. Lily Gibson and Triniti Cornwell received first place for their military themed duo routine. Dorsey and Blakely Bailey received first place for their duo routine. Shayla Dewantara, Zayda Dewantara, and Brylee Herron received first place for their trio routine. Addy Villalobos, Hailey Broom, Brianna Quiroz, and Cassin Mathis received first place for their level 3 stunt group routine. Emily Wyatt, Gracie Elliott, Kenadie Hayes, and Tatianna Rollins received first place for their level 2 stunt group.
The cheer program is holding an information session for their upcoming season on Sunday, May 15th from 2-4 p.m. at the Jackson County Rescue Squad Building. Tryouts are scheduled for Saturday, May 21st. For more information on tryouts, please call 226-9943 or 506-1419. No experience is required. Cheerleaders (male and female) ages 3-18 are welcome to attend tryouts. Current cheerleaders represent Jackson, Macon, Swain, and Haywood Counties of NC and Rabun County, Georgia.
