The Summit loves Sylva

If you drove through Downtown Sylva this past Saturday you may have received some love from The Summit Church. Members gathered at the fountain on Main Street holding signs and waving at people passing by.

This event was originally scheduled for the Saturday before Valentine’s Day but had to be rescheduled due to poor weather. When asked why they decided to host this event, the answer came quickly “We love our community,” said Tracie Jernigan Co-Pastor of The Summit. “All we want is a smile and to brighten someone’s day.”

After their time on Main Street, church members went out to visit some special homebound members that were in need of love. They sang love songs, while staying socially distant, and reminded them that they were loved.

The Summit has been very active in many community events in the past. This past year many of those events have been canceled due to COVID19. Church members started looking for other ways to be active in the community, which is how they came up with the idea of the Main Street demonstration this past Christmas. After receiving  lots of positive feedback, they decided to do it again for Valentine’s Day.

The Summit is currently only meeting virtually due to COVID-19, but for more information about the church, you can visit them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/thesummitsylva or their website https://thesummitonline.org/
