ArtFest raises money for local art programs; celebrates decades of art education

Local Artist Carol Conti presented her original painting “Smoky Mountain Fall,” to Mary Murray of Franklin, the winner of a raffle to raise money for art programs in Macon County Public Schools.

The winning ticket, among nearly a thousand sold, was pulled Saturday night during the Blue Jazz fundraising concert that capped Uptown Gallery’s ArtFest weekend. More than 120 art enthusiasts joined members of the Macon County Art Association at Tartan Hall Saturday night to celebrate the art organization’s 60th Anniversary.

Uptown Gallery is owned and operated by MCAA volunteers. ArtFest included free art events at the Macon County Public Library last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. More than 350 children and adults attended the 30 art experience sessions. A Silent Auction was also part of the concert fundraising. MCAA plans to present a check to the Macon County Public Schools Board this fall to fund art programs and art teacher professional development.
