Filing for the Macon County Board of Education opened on July 1 at noon, with several candidates already filing for the two open seats.
The public schools of Macon County are governed by an elected Board of Education. It’s five members, elected or four-year staggered terms, represent the three school districts and the county at large. The board serves as a non-partisan board. The superintendent of Macon County Schools, Dr. Chris Baldwin, serves as the secretary of the board.
Two seats on the Macon County Board of Education will appear on the ballot this November. The District II seat, currently held by Tommy Cabe, and the county at large seat, currently held by Carol Arnold are both up for election.
Candidates to file as of Tuesday, July 5 at noon are:
District II:

District At Large:
Carol Arnold- Incumbent
Diedre Kaye Breeden
Filing for the Macon County Board of Education will continue until July 15 at noon. There is a $5 filing fee to run for the office.
