SYLVA, NC — At their regular business session on May 24, the Jackson County Board of Education approved Dr. Nathan Frizzell as the new principal for Blue Ridge Early College in Cashiers. Frizzell, currently a social studies teacher at Smoky Mountain High School, has more than 20 years of experience in public education.
After graduating from Sylva-Webster High School in 1987, Frizzell served in the U.S. Army as an engineer and in the military police. He is married with four children and one grandchild.
“I look forward to this new position because I see it as a wonderful opportunity to inspire young adults to become successful students and life-long learners who will, in turn, become successful adults and citizens in our community and the world,” Frizzell said.
Superintendent Dr. Dana Ayers cited Frizzell’s dedication to Jackson County Public Schools and his experience as a teacher, principal, and assistant principal.
“Dr. Frizzell brings a vast amount of knowledge to this role. He is a local educator who resides in Cullowhee, and I know he will lead BREC with an eagerness to recruit and retain students and staff,” Ayers said.
Frizzell attended Western Carolina University, NC State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds bachelor’s degrees in History and English, master’s degrees in American History and Education Supervision and a doctorate in Education Leadership.
He will begin at Blue Ridge Early College on July 1 for the 2022-23 school year.
