Macon Middle School Principal resigns after being suspended with pay

During the May meeting of the Macon County Board of Education, the board accepted the resignation of Dr. Kevin Bailey, former principal of Macon Middle School.

In Dr. Bailey’s letter of resignation, dated April 29, 2022, Dr. Bailey wrote “Please be advised that this letter serves as my official notification of my resignation effective June 30, 2022. I have enjoyed working for Macon County Schools and I appreciate the opportunity. Best wishes in the future.”

Dr. Bailey was suspended with pay in early April while school was out for Spring Break. Although no reason for his suspension was given by officials, Dr. Bailey’s Tik Tok account, for which he has gained notable attention for had been completely deleted. Dr. Bailey’s Tik Tok account featured morning messages from the middle school, however, he also had personal videos that raised questions among many parents.

Dr. Kevin Bailey was hired as the Principal of Macon Middle School in July 2021 after the retirement of former Principal Scot Maslin.

Prior to being hired in Macon County, Dr. Bailey spent seven years in the classroom, teaching various subjects, including eighth-grade science, earth science, animal science, horticulture, and agricultural mechanics.  He also spent five years as assistant principal at Rutherford-Spindale Middle School in Rutherfordton, N.C. In 2017, Dr. Bailey was hired by Jackson County Public Schools as their Human Resource Director. In 2019, he was promoted to Executive Director of Human Resources.

After Dr. Bailey’s resignation, Mark Sutton was appointed as interim principal of Macon Middle School with Ken Neitz continuing to serve as Assistant Principal. With Sutton’s move to MMS, Brian Moffit was moved from South Macon Elementary School to Macon Early College to serve as interim principal. Angie Ledford is serving as an Assistant Principal intern at South Macon Elementary School.
