SYLVA – Southwestern Community College students aiming to enter the healthcare profession can now get their tuition and other expenses completely covered – while also securing guaranteed employment after graduation – through a new program offered in partnership with Harris Regional & Swain Community Hospitals.

The Harris & Swain Healthcare Scholars Program provides last-dollar tuition support as well as funding for books, supplies and other expenses associated with pursuing a healthcare career through SCC.

The program is for both prospective and current students in 10 of the 17 Health Sciences career pathways offered at Southwestern:

  • Nursing
  • Nurse Aide
  • Emergency Medical Science
  • Medical Assisting
  • Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Medical Sonography
  • Phlebotomy
  • Radiography
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Surgical Technology

“We are grateful to our friends at Harris Regional and Swain Community Hospitals for supporting our students in this way,” said Melissa Hyatt, SCC’s Dean of Health Sciences. “What an exciting opportunity for our students! It’s a genuine win-win scenario: Our students get the bulk of their college expenses covered and are guaranteed employment upon graduation, and our local hospitals are able to fill some much needed positions with some of the most-qualified and best-trained healthcare professionals in the nation.”
