Swain County Schools cap out-of-district enrollment due to capacity

The Swain County School system is experiencing increased enrollment for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. These higher enrollment numbers have moved Superintendent Mark Sale to request something he has never asked for -- to close enrollment for out-of-district students. At their regular meeting this week, the school board followed the recommendation of Sale to cap enrollment for three Swain County Schools.

The school system has closed enrollment for out-of-district students for kindergarten at East Elementary, kindergarten and first grade at West Elementary School and the freshmen class at Swain High School.
