Join us on Tuesday, November 29th at 1 PM for a book signing and meet-and-greet with internationally-released, award-winning, local author Renea Winchester!
Renea is an internationally-released, award-winning author of: Outbound Train, the French translation, De l’autre cote’ des rails. Her nonfiction titles include: Farming, Friends & Fried Bologna Sandwiches, In the Garden with Billy and multiple essays and short stories. She is a regular contributor to Smoky Mountain Living Magazine.
She is a passionate supporter of literacy and libraries and leads regional and national writing workshops across the US, including the prestigious John C Campbell Folk School. Renea is the winner of multiple awards including: The Lucy Bramlette Patterson Award for Fiction, NC Press Associations Award, Wilma Dykeman Award for Essay, Appalachian Writers Award, and the Blue Ridge Writers Award. She has judged multiple literary contests.
Renea serves on the NC Cooperative Extension Service Advisory Board for Swain County, and is the owner of Botanicals, a medicinal herb farm which borders the National Park. It is on this family land where she leads medicinal plant workshops. She is a seed grower for Sow True Seed and strongly believes in preserving heritage seeds.
Set in the 70s when textile manufacturing was king throughout the south, Outbound Train tells of the Hardscrabble life of three women. Women who encourage each other. Women who, in their own way, make a difference in their community.
