My kids would spend every moment in the water if given the opportunity, so we are always looking for different lakes and rivers to explore.
On Sunday we packed the kids up and headed to Jackson County to spend the afternoon on Lake Glenville. The Pines Recreation area is the perfect place to catch some sun while the littles splashed in the water.
The address of the Pines Recreation Area is 1965 Pine Creek and the sandy shores are located about 25 mins from either Franklin or Sylva depending on which way you travel up the mountain.
The mountain lake is beautiful with plenty of room to build sand castles, swim, or float a paddle board or kayak. There is a pier at the park, perfect for fishing, and several picnic tables to enjoy lunch. There are also bathrooms and plenty of parking making getting there and staying all day super easy!
Probably one of the best parts about the recreation area is that it is fully handicap accessible! There is a concrete ramp that goes all the way to the beach which is great for wheelchairs, wagons, or strollers.
The area around the beach has great shady spots to throw up a tent and set up shop for the day, which many people were doing Sunday afternoon.
We got to the beach right after an afternoon shower and only planned to stay for a couple of hours. So we threw out some towels on the beach and watched the kiddos play with water guns in the lake. Every so often a boat would come by off in the distance pushing the waves to shore, which added some fun excitement for the kids.
We even saw a bald eagle take off from the recreation area, fly on the outer border of the swimmers, and land in a tree off in the distance! It was a really great way to spend a Sunday and we can’t wait until we can get back and spend more time there!
