The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department are proud to present the third annual Holiday Fireworks and Concert in downtown Sylva on Friday, Dec. 16.
The chamber will host a holiday-themed concert by local rockers Terri Lynn Queen and Scott Baker from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the front porch of the chamber at 773 West Main Street in Sylva. The fireworks will follow at 7:30 p.m.
“This is our Christmas gift to the Jackson County community to enjoy while shopping and dining out during the last holiday shopping weekend before Christmas,” said Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Julie Donaldson.
“The fireworks display will be visible from all over Main and Mill Street in downtown Sylva and the immediate surrounding areas,” said Jackson County Parks and Recreation Director Rusty Ellis. “They are shot from Sunrise Park, which is directly above The Coffee Shop/Creekside Oyster House area.”
Walmart of Sylva store number 2440 will be providing a free hot chocolate bar and cookies during the holiday concert at the chamber from 6:30-7:45 p.m.
“We want to thank store manager Justin Lott for his generosity,” said Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Office Manager Belinda Bryson. “We’ll have hot chocolate and all the fixin’s for a nice warm holiday treat. The chamber will also have holiday jams and historic courthouse Christmas ornaments available for purchase as last minute gifts, while supplies last.”
There is rumor that Santa Claus will also be making a special appearance for children and families to get photos.
“This will perhaps be your last chance to let Ol’ Saint Nick know whether you’ve been naughty or nice,” said chamber assistant director Kelly Donaldson. “He’s making his final rounds before Christmas.”
Sylva’s own Triple Threat Dancers will perform a short dance routine at 7 p.m. near the town Christmas tree/fountain.
“This group really knows how to bring the spirit of the season,” said Tom Frazier of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. “We’re thrilled to have them participate and bring more joy to this holiday event.”
