The Great Smokies Health Foundation received 42 applications in the 2022 Community Grant cycle, totaling almost $205,000 in funding requests – more than the Foundation has ever received in any previous year.
The Board of Directors met on Friday, August 12th to conduct final review and vote on this year’s grantees. The 30 Community Grants that were approved represent an extraordinary range of activities and services focused on health, wellness, and prevention initiatives across Graham, Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties.
The Great Smokies Health Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3), was created in August 2014 as the Legacy organization to West Care Health System (Harris Regional Hospital & Swain County Hospital) with proceeds from their sale to Duke Life Point, a for-profit entity.
The mission of the Great Smokies Health Foundation is to improve the health status of the residents of Jackson, Swain, Macon, and Graham counties through investment and collaboration focused on health, wellness, and prevention. The Foundation is governed by a local board with representatives from the communities being served.
Organizations seeking funding from the Great Smokies Health Foundation must be either a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency with a current Charitable Solicitation License issued by the North Carolina Secretary of State, or a city, county or other governmental agency.
