Union Academy is on a new adventure. Following a unanimous 5-0 school board vote, Union Academy is now Bartram Academy - home of the Explorers.
Union Academy, Macon County Schools’ alternative education school, is on a new adventure transforming into Bartram Academy - Home of the Explorers. This exciting change reflects the school's dedication to fostering a spirit of curiosity, adventure, and growth in its students.
The decision to rename the institution was driven by a change in school leadership, along with the possibility of consolidation with Franklin High School. An award of a million-dollar grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction also factored into the timing of the decision.
