When Bill Hutson and his wife Pam relocated to Macon County, they had big plans of retirement. But, as a tried-and-true businessman, Bill saw a need in the community and couldn’t resist filling that gap; as such, H&H Softwash was established on July 1, 2021.
Bill and Pam were married in November of 2002 and have always been passionate about giving back to their home community. Soon after their wedding, the couple started their first nonprofit, Table Talk Foundation for Better Living, Inc., that December, offering free home repairs for the elderly and disabled in their neighborhoods. Bill recalls,
“We were at a house in Spencer, Indiana, where a 90-year-old woman lived by herself. Her sidewalk was so green with algae that I almost slipped, so I researched how to clean it. I discovered soft washing and offered this as a free service to our nonprofit clients.”
Table Talk Foundation for Better Living, Inc., has grown to include offices in two states, with clients in 12 states. Bill and Pam retired in November of 2020, but as I said – Bill couldn’t stay away from meeting needs in his community long. H&H Softwash was established just 8 months after he retired from the nonprofit.
Soft washing is different than pressure washing; pressure washing uses high-pressure on the surface, anywhere from 1700 to 5500 psi. Home sidings simply aren’t made to withstand that level of pressure, and it can cause paint to chip or windows to break. Bill uses dedicated pumps designed for soft washing that put out low pressure, around 160 psi, but a high volume of around 10 gallons a minute. Soft washing does not just wash away algae, moss, and lichen like pressure washing does, but it kills it then rinses it away, providing your home and roof an extra layer of protection.
“Algae promotes the growth of moss and lichen, and when they grow on your roof, they grow on the leading edge of the shingle which will eventually curl your shingle and can damage the substrate of your roof. Cleaning and killing the algae can protect your roof from future damage.” Bill notes.
It’s clear from our short conversation the Bill is passionate about teaching his clients about soft washing and the current ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturer’s Association) recommendations for keeping your roof protected. But his passion doesn’t stop there – giving back is Bill’s second nature. He is offering lucky community members in Macon County the chance to win a free roof and/or exterior wash!
Churches in Macon County are invited to submit a photo to H&H Softwash on Facebook during the month of August. The photo with the most likes at midnight on August 31, 2021, will receive a FREE roof and exterior wash for their church. Additionally, Bill will give two runners-up a free exterior wash!
Bill isn’t done there – his goal is to run this contest 2-3 times a year for the community. In addition to the church wash giveaway, keep your eyes on the H&H Softwash Facebook page for the opportunity to nominate a deserving member of the community to win a free wash.
