SYLVA, NC – On Wednesday morning, October 26, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a currently enrolled student at Smoky Mountain High School had made a threat against the school on social media. Law enforcement alerted the school and worked with district and school administrators to investigate the incident and ensure that there was no risk to student safety.
Officials quickly verified that the threat was not valid and no weapon was brought to Smoky Mountain High School. A call about the incident was made to parents by the school principal at 10:45 a.m. There was no interruption to the school schedule, and classes proceeded normally.
