Local family collecting items for military overseas

Over the last five years, Dave Linn and his family have been sending car packages to local military families stationed away from home. What started as a tradition for their family has now branched out into a community project to send a little taste of home to men and women in the military for the holidays.

“It has become a new tradition to my family and many of the residents of Macon County to let the soldiers stationed far away know that we are blessed to have them protecting our freedom but also wish they were home for the holidays,” said Dave Linn.

This year, Linn and his family are planning to send some special items and needed items to 135 soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.

“We have worked with a soldier from our area that gave us an opportunity to donate to help bring a smile to the soldiers and let them know we are thankful for them fighting and protecting our freedom,” said Linn.  Our goal is to have the care packages shipped out on December 1st and we are encouraging residents to donate by November 30th at one of the locations in the Franklin area.”

With the goal of 135 care packages to members of the military, Linn is hoping that members of the community will once again help make the holidays special for those having to spend it away from home.

Donation locations have been established at Franklin Office Supply on the Highlands Road and Trent and Associates Insurance located at 83 E Palmer Street.

Linn said items they are hoping to provide the soldiers with are:

Athletic socks

Goodies (example candy but no chocolate)

Reading material (example recent magazines)

Hygiene products (toothpaste, deodorant, small soap but no razors or shaving cream)

Christmas cards

Please drop off your donation this week. If you have any questions call Linn at 828.421.7637
