Macon County issues warning ahead of weekend winter storm

Macon County is expected to be affected by a winter storm late Saturday and throughout the day Sunday. Although the timing and forecast paths are still uncertain, most models are in agreement that we will experience some form of wintry precipitation in the form of snow, sleet or freezing rain.

Forecast snow amounts also vary greatly, but there is potential for significant snowfall unlike any we have seen in Macon County in several years. Residents should prepare now and anticipate road and business closures, travel difficulties, and possibly utility outages. Make sure you and your neighbors are prepared.

Make arrangements now to check on family, friends and neighbors before conditions possibly
deteriorate later this weekend. In addition to food and water, make sure you can safely maintain your heat sources in the event of utility outages. Consider any medication prescriptions or other medical needs that might be impacted by travel difficulties, business closures or utility outages. Remember that 9-1-1 is for emergencies and not to report routine utility outages.
