Masks no longer required for some high school athletes

Track and baseball players this Spring will not be required to wear masks during competition after Governor Cooper’s executive order goes into effect today at 5 p.m.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has announced that athletes will no longer be required to wear face masks outdoors.

In response to Governor Cooper’s latest Executive Order, the NCHSAA announced that outdoor sports athletes will not be required to wear masks starting on Friday, April 30th at 5 pm.

According to the NCHSAA Board of Directors, face masks will now be optional for outdoor sports participants, including officials actively participating in competition.

Additionally, the association stated that all athletes and coaches, who are not actively participating or cannot socially distance, should continue to wear a mask at the venue.
