[SYLVA, NC – 1/17/24] Jackson County Public Schools has accepted the resignation of Smoky Mountain High School head football coach Rick Brindley. He will assume the head football coach position at his alma mater, Pisgah High School. Coach Brindley began with SMHS in 2018, coming to Jackson County from Pisgah High School. In addition to his role as head football coach, Brindley serves as the athletic director and physical education teacher. Our student athletes have worked hard under coach Brindley to return SMHS to being a strong program in western North Carolina. We thank him for this service.
As per contractual obligations, Brindley is expected to complete a 30-day time commitment required for all contracted, certified teachers. During this period, he will work closely with the administration to ensure a smooth transition for the football program, athletic department, and physical education curriculum.
A search for a replacement will begin immediately as we plan for spring workouts and the upcoming fall season. Position postings are available at: https://www.jcpsnc.org/departments/human-resources
