TekTone Sound & Signal Mfg. Inc. was recognized for outstanding safety and health efforts for the 2022 calendar year by the North Carolina Department of Labor at the Asheville Safety Awards Banquet.

TekTone’s Compliance and Training Manager, Betty Smith, attended the banquet to receive the Second Consecutive Year Gold Safety award for TekTonefrom NCDOL Labor Commissioner, Josh Dobson. To qualify for an annual safety award, an organization must meet the following criteria:

•     Have no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location for which the award was given; AND

•     Have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry group.

There are two Safety Award levels, Gold and Silver. According to labor.nc.gov, “The Gold Award is based on the days away, restricted, transferred (DART) rate, which includes cases of days away from work, restricted activity or job transfer” and “The Silver Award is based only on cases with days away from work. They are recorded when the worker misses at least one full day of work, not including the day of the injury.” A formula used to compute the incident rate of the organization which is then compared to a table that “lists the incidence rate calculated to 50 percent for each industry group.”
