Traffic stop in Jackson County nets drug and gun charges

On July 20, 2021, Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a routine traffic stop near Exit 81 just outside of Dillsboro. During the traffic stop, Deputies smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the driver, identified as Malcolm Raheem Hollaman, and the passenger, Tahzyah Kebian Whitson, to step out of the vehicle. At that time Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. During the probable cause search of the vehicle, Deputies located approximately 139.3 grams (approximately 4.9 ounces) of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a concealed handgun.

Hollaman was arrested and charged for trafficking in methamphetamine by transportation, trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver methamphetamine, conspire to traffic methamphetamine, maintain a vehicle for controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of firearm by felon, carrying concealed weapon, driving while license revoked, and rear lamp violation. Hollaman was placed in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $100,000.00 secured bond.

Whitson was arrested and charged for trafficking in methamphetamine by transportation, trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver methamphetamine, conspire to traffic methamphetamine, maintain a vehicle for controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia. Whitson was placed in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $75,000.00 secured bond.
