Jackson County plans Operation Medicine Drop for National Poison Prevention Week March 20-26

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Jackson County Health Department, will host a prescription drug take back day on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 form 10am-2pm at the Jackson County Senior Center in support of Operation Medicine Drop and observance of National Poison Prevention Week.

The opioid epidemic is not only a National crisis but a North Carolina crisis as well. An average of 4 people a day are dying from overdose in NC with 79% of those deaths involving some type of opioid. Drugs not properly disposed of may end up getting into the wrong hands or end up in our water system. Since 2010 Operation Medicine Drop (OMD) has collected more than 266 million pills and supported over 4,332 pill take back events across North Carolina.

Bring your unwanted, expired over-the counter and prescription medications to the Jackson County Senior Center (100 County Services Park, Sylva, NC) from 10:00am-2:00pm on March 22, 2022.
