National Prescription Drug Take Back Day scheduled for October 23

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

The opioid epidemic is not only a National crisis but a North Carolina crisis as well. An average of 4 people a day are dying from overdose in NC with 79% of those deaths involving some type of opioid. Drugs not properly disposed of may end up getting into the wrong hands or end up in our water system.

Operation Medicine Drop (OMD) is a FREE drug take- back program that gives people a safe and secure way to dispose of unwanted over-the counter and prescription medications.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office along with the Sylva Police Department are partnering with Ingles Market of Sylva to host a collection site on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 10am-2pm

Deputies and Police Officers will be at Ingle’s Supermarket to collect your unwanted, expired over-the counter and prescription medications.
