A small rockslide in Swain County has temporarily closed a portion of US-19.
According to reports from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, both directions of US-19 near Shuler Road, east of Bryson City, are currently closed.
NCDOT sent an alert just before 2:30 p.m. stating the rockslide occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 28. The road is expected be cleared around 7 p.m. Sunday night.
Motorist are advised to use US-74 to US -41 to travel between Bryson City and Cherokee.
Additional detour information from NCDOT is provided below:
- Southbound traffic on US-19: Turn right onto Shuler Road, then left onto Galbrath Creek Road and follow back to US-19.
- Northbound traffic on US-19: Turn left onto Galbrath Creek Road and continue to Shuler Road. Turn right onto Shuler Road and follow back to US-19
