Jackson man arrested after Friday morning shooting

Friday morning the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office of a shooting that had occurred in Jackson County near Pinhook Valley Campground off of Charleys Creek Road.

The victim, later identified as William Walker McCall, 37,  was driven a few miles by a friend into Transylvania County while seeking medical attention and stopped at McCall’s Grocery and Gas in Rosman.  The Transylvania Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene with the victim and were able to determine the location of the shooting and a suspect’s name.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrived a short time later and began their investigation with the assistance of the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the NCSBI.  As a result of the shooting, Kenneth William McCall, 66 of Charleys Creek Road, Tuckasegee, NC was arrested. No further suspects are being sought at this time.

McCall was charged with Assault with a. Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury and Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property,

The victim was transported via air medical ambulance to Mission Hospital with life threatening injuries.  The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.  The suspect is currently held in the Jackson County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.
